About ACSF

The main objectives of ACSF are the following:

1. To advance the image of Africans and the values of their cultures.
2. To promote the active integration of Africans in Finnish society.
3. To advocate for the equal rights of Africans living abroad and in Africa.
4. To promote the emancipation of African women and children living abroad and in Africa.
5. To open windows of opportunity between Africa and the rest of the world.
6. To collaborate with other related Associations based abroad and in Africa.

How It all started

The initiative to form ACSF was born out of AFAES which represents both children born in Europe by African parents and the parents themselves who have acquired European citizenships. The idea to have ACSF came as a result of finding the best strategy in unifying Africans in the process of their integration in Finnish society.

The main objective of ACSF is to have all registered associations representing Africans come together under one umbrella to enhance the ability of Africans to face up to the integration challenges relating to educational and employment opportunitues.

After a joint meeting that was held on the 7th of November 2004 by individual Africans, AFAES and KEPA it was decided that a unified body be formed to increase the active participation of Africans in various integration programmes in Finland. As a result of this meeting, members were nominated to be part of an Interim Board with the specific tasks of organising and co-ordinating the formation of the new body - a process which is still taking place.

After the presentation of this idea to KEPA, a meeting was held in Caisa on the 4th of May 2005. Those present at the meeting unaminously agreed that this board chaired by Fatima Usman would carry on working in their temporary capacities until after the October Forum when an election will be officially held.

As a result of the meeting, two committees were also set up. The first committee was tasked to work with the Interim Board in the drafting of the new constitution. The second committee was given the task of organising and co-ordinating the October Forum events that will take place in Caisa from the 21st to the 22nd of October, 2005.
